Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
